Erzulie, Goddess of Love

Erzulie, beautiful Goddess of Love from Once on This Island.


This was my final project for my costume construction class last fall. I'm just now getting around to posting it XD
It's not the best picture in the world but it is the best I have of the entire completed costume.

My model was my friend Jaitee and I designed the costume particularly for her (due to her fantastic hair extensions lol).

I wove a bunch of tropical (fake) flowers into her hair and had it pulled back from her face with a very basic bandanna made of a sheer blue and purple fabric (I found it in the scrap bin, so a specific type of fabric is unknown. sorry).

I bought the skirt plain white for around three dollars and did an Umbre dye. The top was a long piece of muslin I dyed pink and used as a wrap.
The shoes were golden sandals with jewels I added gold fabric trim to the straps.
I also had her wearing large amounts of gold and silver jewelry (large gold hoop earrings, silver bracelets, and several golden necklaces.) Aside from the pre-made jewelry I made a pendant out of pink modeling clay and pressed several magenta and purple stone beads into the clay before baking.

There were definitely things I could have done differently and/or better, but overall I am pleased with the end result.
